Baldacci seeks $42.7M for broadband projects

Gov. John Baldacci is requesting $42.7 million in federal stimulus funds to expand broadband access in Maine.

In a letter yesterday to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, Baldacci voiced his support for seven projects vying for $4.7 billion in federal funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The administration is responsible for reviewing the recommendations and deciding which projects will receive funding. Maine's Broadband Strategy Council and ConnectME Authority had winnowed down 19 proposals and decided to support the seven projects they sent to Baldacci for the final approval. "With expanded broadband access and public support to increase private investment, we can unlock new potential for our families and businesses alike," Baldacci said
