Bangor-based Geaghan Bros. Brewing Co. said its new brewery in Brewer will allow the company to hire more workers and greatly increase its brewing capacity.
The company said Tuesday that its Brewer location is equipped with a 20-barrel brewing system and 40-barrel fermenters, allowing it to produce about eight times the capacity of its Bangor facility.
Geaghan Bros. said this will increase its distribution and make way for the production of 6-pack and 12-pack bottled varieties, which it said is a first for the Bangor area. The new facility also allowed the company to create several new jobs.
“It has always been important for us to stay as local as possible, and support those who have supported us over the forty years our family has been in business,” Andrew Geaghan, owner and head brewer, said in a prepared statement. “Everything from the updates in electrical, to the bottling line, to the tanks that have been custom made to fit our needs and this space, have come from companies here in Maine. Our goal is to one day be able to make our beer using resources just from the state.”
The company’s Bangor brewery will remain open to continue supply its pub, to serve as a test lab and to hold tours and tasting sessions from visitors.
