The Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce has appointed Deborah Neuman, a Bangor-area media personality and former state economic development official, as its new president and CEO.
Neuman, who provides business advice on local radio and TV shows and in news columns, is replacing John Porter, who resigned in August after five years in the position. She starts at the chamber on Jan. 4.
"We are excited that she will bring her unique combination of experience as a business owner and business advocate to the position. She not only understands the needs of our member businesses, but also sees the opportunities for growth in the Bangor region,” Renee Kelly, chairwoman of the chamber's board of directors, said in a news release Thursday. “She is recognized as a go-to resource in the region for small businesses and entrepreneurs.”
Neuman, a Bangor resident, previously served as deputy commissioner for the state Department of Economic and Community Development, director of the University of Maine's Target Technology Center and business lender and counselor with the Eastern Maine Development Corp., according to the release.
