Summit Natural Gas of Maine is expected to complete the inspection and replacement of pipeline joints by year-end, as required by state regulators.
The Morning Sentinel reported that documents filed with the Maine Public Utilities Commission show that Summit is on track to meet the Dec. 31 deadline to inspect and replace hundreds of pipe couplings that had been installed incorrectly in 2014, largely in its Kennebec Valley gas distribution network.
Keith Lincoln, Summit’s operations manager, told the paper that the inspection and testing program is at least 90% complete and shows the company’s commitment to safety and reliability.
The program included 588 electro fusion couplings installed incorrectly by three contractors. So far, 296 of the couplings have been replaced with 52 to go, according to the paper.
