Bangor-based engineering firm Haley Ward Inc. has acquired a division of another firm headquartered in the city, S.W. Cole Engineering Inc.
Haley Ward, formerly known as CES Inc., purchased S.W. Cole’s GeoEnvironmental division for an undisclosed price, according to a news release last week.
The division will work from Haley Ward’s Bangor and Saco offices. Staff will be retained, and will continue their work on environmental site assessments, groundwater monitoring projects and other projects.
“We are excited to welcome the S.W. Cole GeoEnvironmental employees and clients to Haley Ward,” said Haley Ward President & CEO Denis St. Peter. “We enjoyed collaborating with Bob Chaput and the team at S.W. Cole to develop and implement an approach that helps to reach our strategic goals, expands opportunities for our employees and enhances our abilities to provide quality service to clients in our areas of expertise.”
Chaput, the S.W. Cole president and CEO, said, “The sale of our smallest business unit, while bittersweet, provides more opportunities for those Maine-based geoenvironmental employees given the wider array of environmental services offered by Haley Ward. It also allows us to focus on our growing business lines more fully.”
This is not the first time the companies have worked together on a sale of a division. In 2013, S.W. Cole acquired the Construction Materials Testing division of CES, which had previously acquired it from another firm.
Haley Ward has grown through several acquisitions, including one last year of a Massachusetts firm, Haley and Ward Inc. The addition prompted CES to adopt the name of its new business unit.
CES, which stood for "civil engineering services," had used that moniker for 42 years. The company now has approximately 120 employees in Maine, Massachusetts, and Florida.
S.W. Cole employs 110 at offices in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts.
