Bangor man buys Coffee News parent co.

Bill Buckley, president of Coffee News USA Inc., has purchased the publication's Canadian-based parent company.

The Bangor man bought Manitoba Inc. and its intellectual property rights for an undisclosed sum, according to a press release from Coffee News USA. Since March 2006, Buckley had operated the company under a management continuity agreement when its Canadian founder, Jean Daum, became seriously ill with cancer. Daum died in 2007.

Buckley has held the U.S. franchising rights of Coffee News, a weekly publication found in many restaurants, since 1996. As of July 31, Manitoba Inc. had 1,142 franchises in 32 countries, according to the release. (For more on Buckley and Coffee News, read the October 2006 Mainebiz story "Spreading the News".)
