A $1 million expansion at the Bangor-based Chinese restaurant, Oriental Jade, will introduce a showcase kitchen, or an open-style kitchen, in addition to a full sushi bar and an in-house brewery.
But the addition of the new features as part of the expansion will mean the loss of a mainstay at the restaurant — its buffet.
“We’re adding Asian-inspired pizza, Bao buns and other modern Asian bistro items on our menu,” Tyson Lo, son of owners Victor and Lilian Lo, who will join in ownership with them this fall, told the Bangor Daily News. “But to make room for these innovations, we’re going to have to say goodbye to the buffet.”
The in-house brewery and accompanying beer garden is coming to fruition through a partnership with Jared Lambert, an area brewer who has worked at both Marsh Island Brewing and Orono Brewing Company, according to the BDN.
The restaurant will continue to be open during the renovations and its buffet will head to the great restaurant in the sky on Sept. 18, according to the BDN.
