Bank of America closing two branches

Bank of America is closing two branches in Orono and Sanford, but is not laying off any employees.

The bank will close its Orono branch at 56 Main St. and its Sanford drive-up location on 6 River St. on March 16, the Bangor Daily News reported. All employees at those locations will be transferred to nearby locations. Bank of America has a branch in Old Town and a full-service facility in Sanford. The bank has 33 locations around the state and three call centers in Belfast, Brunswick and Orono.

On Tuesday, the company announced corporate-wide layoffs have begun, although there was no specific information on the number of employees to be cut, the Boston Business Journal reported. The bank wants to shave $5 billion in annual costs within several years.
