Bar Harbor sees record cruise ship tally
Bar Harbor saw a record number of cruise ship visits this year and is already lining up a new top tally for 2013.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the Frenchman Bay destination saw 108 cruise ship visits this year with 135 visits already scheduled for 2013.
Those totals are far above two decades ago, when the paper reported that Bar Harbor saw only 22 cruise ship visits.
This year, estimates peg the total visitors from those cruise ships at 130,000.
By comparison, Casco Bay's largest port saw only 58 cruise ship visits bringing 65,000 passengers through downtown Portland.
A study released in September found that cruise ship spending for 2011 was up $9 million over 2010.
