The 300-square-foot converted turkey coop that the late Burt Shavitz, co-founder of Burt’s Bees, called home in Parkman is going on its very own road trip to Durham, N.C. where it will be displayed at the company’s headquarters.
Shavitz lived in the coop, which has no running water, prior to founding the personal care product company with philanthropist Roxanne Quimby. The eponymous founder moved back into the bare-bones shelter following a fire that damaged his home in 2015, according to the Associated Press.
"It's a legacy project. It's going to be maintained so that people can see it and appreciate it," Trevor Folsom, Shavitz's former personal assistant, who inherited the structure, told the AP. "I just felt that it should always be taken care of, no matter what."
The turkey coop home is slated to be available for public viewing in November, according to the AP.
