Bates prez to lead Hopkins center

Bates College President Elaine Tuttle Hansen, who recently announced she would step down in July, has been named executive director of The Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth.

Hansen will begin her new job at the Baltimore center Aug. 1, according to a press release from Johns Hopkins. CTY is an arm of Johns Hopkins that provides advanced courses and other educational programs for talented primary and secondary school students. In 2010, it enrolled more than 26,000 students in summer residential classes and year-round online courses. Hansen was chosen for her extensive academic and leadership experience, according to the release.

Bates announced Hansen's departure last week but did not say where she would be going. Hansen has led the Lewiston private college since 2002.
