After two-thirds of a year vacant, the former Havana South building on Wharf Street is getting new tenants.
The Freeport-based Buck's Naked BBQ has announced plans to open its third restaurant there and expects to sign a lease for the space at 50 Wharf St. this week, according to The Forecaster.
Havana South lasted around 18 months at the previous location. Buck's owners Wendy and Alex Caisse told The Forecaster that they're hoping BBQ will find a unique niche in Portland's downtown dining scene and that an expanded bar – with 40 to 50 seats – will cater to the Old Port's nightlife options.
With the opening of the new location – adding to their flagship Freeport restaurant and Windham location that opened in 2010 – the Caisses told the paper that they plan to add 50 employees in the Old Port.
