The spirits company Beam Inc., which makes liquors including Jim Beam Bourbon, announced Wednesday it has sold a Lewiston bottling plant to New Orleans-based Sazerac Co. for an undisclosed price.
The companies said the plant will remain operational through the sale. Beam had acquired the Lewiston plant and Pinnacle Vodka from White Rock Distillery in April 2012 for $605 million. The company said in early 2014 that it plans to shift production of the vodka and Calico Jack Rum to Kentucky, where around two-thirds of its annual volume is produced.
The sale included the building, land and equipment. Beam will lease back the plant from Sazerac until early next year, when it expects to complete its move out of Maine.
A company spokeswoman told the Portland Press Herald that the plant’s 120 employees are expected to continue to work through the transition and eventually become Sazerac workers.
