Just in time for baseball season, outdoor retailer L.L.Bean will open its newest store — and its first in Beantown — at Boston Seaport on April 6 with a weekend of festivities starting with appearances by three Red Sox legends.
Jim Rice, Luis Tiant and Dennis Eckersley are all scheduled to be on hand for photo ops and autographs on the Friday evening, a day after the Red Sox home opener at Fenway Park against the Tampa Bay Rays. Photo ops will also be possible with the team’s world championship trophies and the team mascot, Wally the Green Monster.
That will be followed by a two-day block party featuring free outdoor yoga, games and ‘pup walks and wags,’ but apparently only for well-socialized dogs.
The 8,600-square-foot store, at 56 Seaport Blvd., will sell active and casual apparel, outerwear and a variety of outdoor lifestyle gear “carefully curated” for Boston residents and visitors, the retailer said in a May 2017 announcement. It also said that at time that the store will employ about 50 people.
Elsewhere in Massachusetts, L.L.Bean operates a kiosk in Boston’s Prudential Center, and stores in Burlington, Dedham, Mansfield, Mashpee and Wareham.
The upcoming opening comes less than a month after L.L.Bean announced plans to eliminate 100 positions this spring and to skip performance bonuses this year as it seeks to cut costs.
