L.L. Bean Inc., the Freeport-based outdoor retailer identified with nature and the wilderness, is pitching camp in New York City.
Bean has planned to stage a pop-up campsite — presumably, outfitted with Bean gear — in the city’s Battery Park today. Urban residents can sample “classic summer activities,” including s’more roasting, outdoor games and hands-on activities from Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Program, according to a news release.
Rideshare company Uber is partnering with Bean by giving consumers $15 vouchers for trips to the campsite.
The New York pop-up is part of Bean’s new “S'more Out of Summer” promotional campaign. Similar campsites will be pitched in Boston, Buffalo and Madison, Wis., over the next six weeks, according to the release. Subsequent stops are also planned.
"At L.L. Bean we have always believed in the benefits of the outdoors and are committed to making sure everyone has the chance to enjoy it," Bean President and CEO Steve Smith said in the release.
"We all have busy schedules and don't spend as much time as we'd like outside, especially in the summer. Making a s'more is the perfect way to pause and celebrate the season.”
