Bean’s lobster plant still not cleared of violations

The Food and Drug Administration and Linda Bean’s lobster processor in Rockland appear to be divided over whether the plant has been cleared of “significant violations.”

The Associated Press reported that the FDA said the lobster plant has still not completely addressed health violations it received earlier this year in February. At the time, the federal agency said the plant was preparing, packing and handling lobster and crab meat “under insanitary conditions whereby they may have been rendered injurious to health.”

But Bean said in a recent email to the news agency that everything has been addressed, and that the plant’s record-keeping process has been improved to assure the “FDA that safe cooking and cooling temperature levels are being met.”

An FDA spokeswoman told the AP that Bean’s plant remains under investigation, which will include “an assessment of corrective actions that the firm may have proposed.”
