It’s year seven of Benchmark Real Estate’s signature charity event, the Portland Kids Duathlon.
Scheduled for July 21, the event offers a run/bike/run long course for 8- to 12-year-olds. The format is designed to be fun and approachable for non-swimmers and triathletes alike.
A short-course bike-only event is included for children age 3-5 and children with special needs.
There will be both in-person and virtual races. For virtual participants there are no age requirements.
All sponsor dollars and race profits will be donated to the Foundation for Portland Public School. Benchmark’s past duathlons have raised over $75,000 for the foundation.
The foundation is a nonprofit aligned with Portland Public Schools in order to raise philanthropic support in response to district needs.
Benchmark Real Estate owner Tom Landry and his wife Amy have been avid multi-sport enthusiasts for many years. Their daughter watched them train for years, coming along for training runs in the stroller and cheering from the sidelines. Too young to race, she often asked them to set up special multi-sport race courses just for her in their neighborhood. The Landrys founded Portland’s first kid’s duathlon for her and other local children with a love for sports.
The Portland Kids Duathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event, which means it’s insured and follows a uniform set of rules, with safety plans, course maps and event details submitted for review by USA Triathlon staff
