BIA passenger traffic up

Passenger traffic at Bangor International Airport increased 10% in February over the same time last year, despite a nationwide average decrease of 8.5%. Airport Director Rebecca Hupp attributed the rise to increased demand due to lower fares and more nonstop flights to top destinations, the Bangor Daily News reported.

Five airline carriers serve BIA, all but one of which posted an increase in February. Continental Airlines' passenger statistics spiked by more than 100% over the previous year.

The February numbers contrast with a 12.4% decrease BIA reported in January. Also, the airport's load factor, which measures planes' occupancy, was about 66% in January, compared to73.4 % in February, the paper reported.
