Biddeford gives final OK to $50M mixed-use plan

A developer’s $50 million plan to transform Biddeford’s Lincoln Mill into a hotel and apartment complex is moving forward after receiving final approval from the city’s Planning Board.

The Portland Press Herald reported that the Lincoln Hotel and Lofts project, proposed by developer Tim Harrington, is among other local developments that city officials said were prompted by the city’s removal of a downtown trash incinerator. Other local developments includes the $15 million Lofts at Saco Falls and $10 million Pepperell Center projects.

“The leadership of the [Biddeford] City Council to buy the [trash incinerator] site is really helping to stimulate a lot of this growth,” Daniel Stevenson, Biddeford’s economic development director, said. “These projects will also continue to derive growth. We’re going to get more people living in our downtown and more people coming to our downtown.”

Harrington’s Lincoln Mill project calls for 96 apartments, two restaurants and an 81-room hotel. It is expected to create at least 200 permanent jobs.
