Bigelow Lab nets $4.9M grant

The Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay has received a $4.9 million grant for construction of its new campus.

The grant from the National Science Foundation, paid for through federal economic stimulus money, will support construction of the lab's Center for Ocean Biogeochemistry and Climate Change, according to the Portland Press Herald. The center will have 7,000 square feet of laboratory space that will support research on plankton and the correlation between the world's oceans and climate change.

The center has also received a $4.45 million award from the Maine Technology Asset Fund.
