Bisson Transportation said on Friday that it is moving its headquarters from West Bath to Brunswick to reduce its overhead costs, according to The Times Record.
Bob Cooper, Bisson's president, told the newspaper that the 90-year-old company has evolved since he purchased it 18 years ago, from primarily a residential moving firm to one with operations in heavy duty truck maintenance, freight hauling and office systems installation. The company's residential moving operations, about 20% of its business, were based in West Bath, but that business has fallen off since the housing slump hit and is no longer profitable, Cooper said. "We're responding to the realities of the household market," Cooper told the paper. "People aren't selling their homes and we're not moving them. We can't continue to have the high overhead in that department."
Bisson's administrative staff will move to Fort Andross Mill complex in Brunswick, while its warehouse and sales staff will move to a facility on Bath Road.
