BIW nets additional $8M from Navy

Bath Iron Works has received nearly $8 million from the Navy for additional work on a new line of destroyers.
The Navy awarded the shipyard another $7.9 million for design work on the DDG-1000 class destroyer program, according to the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. Sen. Susan Collins announced the funding, saying it resulted from a modification to an existing contract for the new destroyer. In April 2009, BIW was made the sole shipbuilder for the three $3 billion destroyers, the first of which is under construction and scheduled to be complete in 2013.
