Blue Marble Geographics said it’s moving into a bigger office building in Hallowell this fall as the software company continues to grow sales of its affordable global mapping tool.

Patrick Cunningham, the company’s president, confirmed to Mainebiz that Blue Marble will move into a 6,468-square-foot office building at 22 Carriage Lane in Hallowell this October. The company bought the building on Aug. 7 for $819,000 from Wolfington Group LLC. The deal was brokered by Brad Moll and Tom Moulton of NAI The Dunham Group and Chris Paszyc of CBRE | The Boulos Company.

Blue Marble’s move into the Class A office building, which was built in 2012, will roughly double the company’s space from its current 3,400-square-foot building at 77 Water St., which the company plans to put on the market soon, Cunningham said.

Cunningham said Blue Marble needed a larger office space because its current space was getting tight for its approximately 30 employees and because the company plans to hire 10 additional employees over the next five years as software sales continues to grow.

The company provides software tools to help government agencies and companies in a variety of sectors, including oil and gas, mining and academia, build maps that can provide distance and area calculations, line of sight calculations, spectral analysis and a number of other features.

Cunningham said Blue Marble’s Global Mapper tool, which is advertised as a “low-cost and easy-to use” geographic information system solution, has been leading the company’s growth over the last few years since it acquired the company that made the software.
