Bold Coast Byway expected to boost Downeast tourism

A plan to market the Bold Coast Byway, a 125-mile scenic corridor from Milbridge to Eastport,  is complete.

Its goals include growing recreational and cultural-based tourism for the region, The Working Waterfront reported.

The plan builds on the concept of municipalities and organizations joining forces to market a region as a whole rather than its individual parts. A similar campaign is the "Two-Nation Vacation" campaign, officially launched in 2013 by Down East Maine and New Brunswick. The cross-border tourism partnership is designed to increase visitation for both regions. Part of its packaging includes The Bold Coast.

The Bold Coast Scenic Byway website promotes the Downeast “way of life” and unique culture, as well as specific places to visit and things to do.

“Activities that encourage visitors to explore the region more deeply will extend economic benefits along the entire Byway corridor,” the website says. Economic benefits are expected to include lengthened overnight visitation and shoulder seasons, boosting existing business and encouraging the establishment of new businesses.
