Boston firm seeks to build Rockland energy plant

A subsidiary of Boston-based Energy Management Inc. wants to buy two Rockland city properties and transform them into a natural gas-fired energy plant.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Rockland Energy Center LLC has made a $1.2 million bid for Rockland’s City Hall property and $350,000 for its public services facility. The Rockland City Council is expected to vote this Wednesday on authorizing its city manager to begin negotiating a sales agreement.

Rockland Energy Center would use gas and steam turbines to generate electricity, which would be sold to Central Maine Power Co. The company also indicated that it would deliver some of its steam to other companies for the purpose of heating their facilities.
