A former employee of Poland Spring Corp. is suing the bottled water company for harassment and wrongful termination.
John Crosby, a Hebron resident, worked as a forklift operator at the company's manufacturing plant in Poland Springs for 15 years, but was fired in January 2007 for misloading a truck, according to the Sun Journal. Crosby claims he was subject over the course of two years to harassment by his boss for various requests, including time off, for a medical condition -- Crosby was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2003 -- and was singled out because of his condition when he was fired, the paper reported.
The lawsuit, filed in Androscoggin County Superior Court in Auburn, claims Poland Spring and its parent company, Nestle Waters America Inc., violated the Maine Human Rights Act, the Maine Family Leave Law and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, according to the Sun Journal.
