Gov. Paul LePage has nominated a 31-year military veteran and the co-owner of Getchell Bros. Inc. to lead the Maine National Guard a week after LePage’s first choice removed himself from consideration.
LePage announced Tuesday he had nominated Col. Douglas A. Farnham as the Guard’s adjutant general and commissioner of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management.
Farnham, who has been wing commander of the 101st Air Refueling Wing in Bangor for the last three year, is also president of Getchell Bros. Inc., a family-owned packaged ice company in business since 1888. The company has locations in Brewer and Sanford.
Farnham is a graduate of Brewer High School and the United States Air Force Academy, and holds an master’s of business administration from Chapman University.
LePage nominated Brig. Gen. Gerard F. Bolduc, who is the acting adjutant general, to the position last week, but Bolduc declined the nomination a day later.
