Construction employment increased in most United States metro areas between November 2014 and November 2015, but Maine saw its construction jobs fall slightly, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America.
The analysis released Tuesday by the national construction association showed that construction jobs in in Maine in November totaled 26,600, down 0.4% from the same month last year.
The Bangor metro area saw its construction jobs remain the same, while construction, mining and logging jobs in the Portland-South Portland metro area increased 2%. In the Lewiston-Auburn metro area, the industry lost 4% of its employment between November 2014 and November 2015.
Nationwide, construction employment increased in 190 out of 358 metro areas, and was unchanged in 64 and declined in 104 other metro areas.
Association officials said in the release that that the number of metro areas experiencing construction job growth continues to grow as firms appear to be having an easier time finding workers to hire.
“Construction employment is expanding in more parts of the country now that firms appear to be having more success finding workers to hire,” Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist, said in a statement. “Firms may not be able to continue expanding their headcounts as rapidly unless public officials increase investments in career and technical education programs.”
