In its five-year history Ascendant Energy has installed more than 70 solar equipment systems in the residential, commercial and institutional sectors. Here’s a few of the company’s more notable projects:

Vinalhaven School, photovoltaic electricity system

Ivan Calderwood Home, photovoltaic electricity system and thermal hot water system
Size: All under 5 kilowatts
Cost of project: Did not disclose
Significance: This series of installations was the company’s first installation project.
Newington, Conn.
January 2008
Installation: Planet Self Storage, photovoltaic electricity system
Size: 168 panels, 27.7 kilowatts
Cost of project: $300,000
Significance: This installation was the company’s first major commercial installation, and the first pole-mounted PV system funded by the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.
Wiscasset
April 2008
Installation: The Chewonki Foundation, Solar Heat and Power system
Size: 18 panels, 270 sq. ft., 3.4 kilowatts
Cost of project: $50,000
Significance: This installation is the beta project of the company’s own solar technology invention, which produces both electricity and heat for Chewonki’s dining facility. Chewonki negotiated a contract with Ascendant Energy to be the first to test the system and used money from its capital fund to pay for it.
Portland
June 2008
Installation: Oakhurst Dairy, thermal hot water system
Size: 75 panels, 2,700 sq. ft.
Cost of project: $200,000
Significance: This installation is the company’s largest commercial project in Maine. The system will offset Oakhurst about 7,500 gallons of oil a year, saving Oakhurst about $30,000 a year, or about 10% of its annual energy costs.
