Browne Trading Co., a Portland-based seafood and caviar merchant, has added three new investment partners.

The company, founded in 1991, sells seafood out of a market at 262 Commercial St. and operates a direct-to-consumer and restaurant supply business.

The business will transition to being led by a board of directors consisting of Rod Browne Mitchell, the founder and CEO, and new investors, including Ed Chiles, Paul Brooke and Jeff Sedacca. All three new partners are fellows at the Culinary Institute of America.

All the partners have equal stakes within the company, with Browne Mitchell remaining CEO. Brooke will serve as chairman of the board of directors.

"Browne Trading Co. has decided to bring in partners to add more expertise into distribution avenues, sustainability and diversity in seafood and caviar supply chains," Browne Mitchell told Mainebiz.

About the new partners

Ed Chiles has over 45 years of experience focusing on sustainable food systems and established three waterfront restaurants. Although he sold his restaurants in 2024, he advocates for environmental sustainability. He is a partner in Lola Wines and Tanasi Nutraceuticals and a co-founder of the Gulf Shellfish Institute.

Paul Brooke brings expertise in investment and corporate strategy. He is a seasoned leader with decades of experience in healthcare and private investment. He has held roles as founder and managing partner of VenBio LLC, chairman of Alsius Corp., and chairman of Caelum Biosciences, as well as senior positions at Morgan Stanley and Tiger Management.

Jeff Sedacca launched his family seafood business in 1972 and later became co-president of National Fish, expanding its U.S. and European operations. He also led the American division of Guo Lian, China’s top publicly traded aquaculture company. Sedacca was one of the founders of the Global Aquaculture Alliance, now the Global Seafood Alliance and is a member of Mote Marine Laboratories’ Research Committee.

“Rod and I have been friends for many years, and I’m thrilled to join Browne Trading Co. to help scale up this wonderful business,” said Sedacca.
