The agency that runs the Brunswick Landing business park has hired economic development expert Daniel Stevenson as its next leader.
He will take the helm of the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority on Monday, March 3.
Stevenson has been Westbrook's director of economic and community development since 2017.
In his new role, he will succeed interim Executive Director Steve Levesque, a Greenville-based consultant with SHL Enterprise Solutions who previously led the MRRA for 15 years.
Stevenson’s appointment comes four months after Kristine Logan stepped down as executive director in the wake of last summer’s accidental discharge of “forever chemicals" at Brunswick Executive Airport.
As Stevenson takes the helm in Brunswick, Levesque said he will stay on as an advisor as needed and eventually "fade away."
Levesque was honored as a Mainebiz Business Leader of the Year in 2018, while Logan was recognized as a Mainebiz Woman to Watch in 2022.
A total of 29 candidates applied for the Brunswick Landing job, including some from outside of Maine, before Stevenson was unanimously chosen by the search committee, according to Levesque. The board of trustees announced the appointment on Friday.
“He’s going to be a good fit,” Levesque told Mainebiz in a phone interview over the weekend. “He’s worked in the community, he’s familiar with all the state business development programs and is very experienced in tax increment financing and other financing tools.”
In addition, Stevenson has “worked a lot with the Legislature, worked in community formats is used to dealing with the public and town councils and has strong relationships with businesses,” Levesque noted.
Both of them have worked in Maine's department of community and economic development, where Levesque served as commissioner from August 1997 until January 2003 and Stevenson served in various roles from 2000 to 2010.
More recently in Westbrook, Stevenson has led downtown revitalization efforts from the Rock Row mixed-use development to the Vertical Harvest indoor farming operation under construction. He has also served as Biddeford’s economic development director.
Stevenson earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in public policy and management from the University of Southern Maine.
In his new role at Brunswick Landing, Stevenson said he looks forward to working with colleagues and local leaders to “seize immediate opportunities and plan for long-term growth and resilience.”
The Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority was created by statute in 2008 and is overseen by an 11-member board of trustees appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Maine Senate.
