Brunswick manufacturer closes, lays off 76

A manufacturing plant in Brunswick that makes electronic fuses and lighting fixtures is closing, leaving 76 jobless.

Houston-based Cooper Industries is planning to close its Cooper Wiring Devices plant within the next 12 months, according to The Forecaster. Matthew Foley, a Cooper spokesman, told the paper employees were notified of the decision on Monday. All 76 workers affected will receive severance, and the company is working with state agencies to coordinate job counseling services. A statement from the company blamed the closure on "global economic conditions," The Forecaster reported.

Work at the Brunswick plant is expected to be shifted to Cooper's other plants over the next year, according to WCSH 6.
