Brunswick Times Record sold

The parent company of the Brunswick Times Record, which has a daily circulation of 11,500 and covers 19 communities in the Midcoast area, has been sold.

Pennsylvania-based Sample News Group has agreed to acquire the publishing assets of The Brunswick Publishing Co., which owns the newspaper and Alliance Press, the Times Record reported. Sample News Group publishes the Biddeford Journal Tribune and six weekly newspapers in southern Maine, as well as newspapers in Pennsylvania.

The agreement, announced yesterday by Times Record publisher Douglas Niven, whose family has owned the publishing company for over 100 years, is expected to close in February 2008. Niven will remain on the publishing company's board of directors. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
