Bucksport mill auction set for March 24
An auction to sell some papermaking equipment at the former Verso Paper Mill in Bucksport will begin on March 24.
WCSH6 TV reported that the company handling the auction has indicated on its website that items to be sold include generators, welders, roll grinders, hand tools and some trucks.
David Milan, Bucksport’s director of economic development, told the Portland-based television station the auction virtually ensures the mill that Verso sold to Canadian scrap metal company American Iron & Metal for $60 million in February will not reopen as a paper mill. “The cost it would take to replenish all this stuff that is going to be sold at this auction will probably be too cost [prohibitive] to do, so I think once the auction has occurred, I think that'll be the final straw,” he said.
Milan told the TV station the town of Bucksport is working with AIM on the redevelopment and demolition of the mill.
