The heaps of snow that have buried Maine in the past week are receiving a mixed report from businesses. For some, it’s a boon; for others, a curse.
The Lewiston Sun Journal reported that Central Maine Powersports, which sells ATVs and snowmobiles in Lewiston, is one of the beneficiaries of the approximately four feet of snow that has fallen in the past week. The store’s manager told the newspaper that she is seeing a boost in sales.
On the other hand, a co-owner of the Guthries restaurant in Lewiston said the blizzard last week forced her to close the store for one day, as well as cancel a couple of events. Heather Letourneau added that the restaurant’s street has been narrowed by snow, slowing business from customers who would normally park there.
The Sun Journal also said that the Maine Turnpike Authority took a hit as a result of last week’s blizzard, estimating the one-day economic impact at $500,000, including $360,000 in lost toll revenues.
