Cambridge loses town landmark to fire

The small town of Cambridge, in Somerset County, lost a downtown business that has long been a community gathering place.

Bunker’s Garage, at 12 Main St., was destroyed by fire on Sunday, the Kennebec Journal reported.

The building likely dated back a century. The garage was a third-generation, family-owned business.

Cambridge is a town of fewer than 500 people, according to the 2010 census.

On the Facebook page of the nearby Cambridge General Store, residents were soon posting condolences, such as “Very sad day....Bunker’s Garage a Cambridge icon.”
