Camden National Bank has pledged a $250,000 donation to help fund the ongoing, $534 million expansion of Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The expansion, which began last year and is expected to be complete in 2022, will eventually add a total of 128 private rooms and 19 procedure rooms for surgeries and other complex treatments. In addition, the project will re-orient the front of the medical center to Congress Street and improve parking for patients and staff.
The hospital, which currently is licensed for 637 beds, is Maine’s largest and the flagship facility of the MaineHealth system.
“We’re passionate about supporting Maine Medical Center’s work and vision to create long-term health and wellness in Maine communities,” Camden President & CEO Greg Dufour said in a news release Thursday.
Dufour attended last week’s ribbon-cutting ceremony at Maine Med’s new Coulombe Family Tower, where the hospital unveiled 64 new rooms for cancer treatment.
Camden’s pledge comes five months after the bank made another $250,000 donation to support the expansion of Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. That project, which broke ground in July, will create a 41,500-square-foot, two-story medical office building on the Pen Bay campus.
The building is expected to be ready for occupancy late next summer. Pen Bay is also part of MaineHealth and affiliated with Maine Med.
Camden National Corp. (Nasdaq: CAC), headquartered in the coastal town, is the largest publicly traded bank holding company in northern New England, with $4.5 billion in assets and nearly 650 employees.
