Canadian boatbuilder expands to Eastport, hiring 50

Later this year, a Canadian boatbuilding firm is expanding to Easport, where it expects to hire 50 workers.

The Bangor Daily News reported the New Brunswick-based Millennium Marine will benefit from a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce awarded to Eastport and Washington County. The grant will help pay for retrofitting 40,000 square feet of the 60,000-square-foot Guilford Mill on Route 190 in Eastport. The paper reported the company will put up $75,000 as part of that renovation effort.

Millennium Marine makes boats for fishermen, law enforcement agencies, marine research organizations, divers, charter operators and others. Boat prices range from $300,000 to $700,000, according to the paper.
