The developers behind a $184 million proposed casino and resort in Oxford County have signed an option for land in the town of Oxford, but remain tight-lipped on its exact location.
At an informational meeting held last night, investors with Black Bear Entertainment said the group has made a deposit on more than 100 acres in Oxford, but would not say more about the deal or where the property is located, according to the Sun Journal. Should voters reject the proposed casino in a statewide referendum in November, the group will forfeit its deposit after 30 days. Investors told the 150 people at last night's meeting that the casino would create 1,700 permanent jobs and generate $60 million in tax revenue, $1 million of which would be funneled to Oxford County.
The group -- which includes former Barber Foods President and CEO Steve Barber, Mt. Abram ski resort co-owner Rob Lally and former Oxford Plains Speedway owner Bob Bahre -- as of July had invested more than $1 million toward the project.
