The Poland Spring Resort is planning a $100,000 renovation and expansion into a year-round facility, an investment triggered by the recent approval of a casino in Oxford.
In a press release Monday, resort owner Cyndi Robbins said "the economic activity the resort casino will generate justifies making this additional investment in my properties." Poland Spring Resort, which currently operates from mid-May to mid-October, has three inns and 10 cottages that accommodate 425 guests, an 18-hole golf course and three restaurants. Robbins plans to winterize the smallest of the three inns at the resort, the Motor Court Lodge, and add an arcade, gift shop and breakfast area, as well as remodel the lobby. Robbins began building a full-size driving range, a mini golf course and a disc golf course at the resort this summer. She also attributed the decision to operate year-round to a shrinking occupancy rate and growing tourist interest in the western mountains region of the state, according to the release.
Statewide voters in November approved Black Bear Entertainment's $165 million casino resort in the town of Oxford.
