Attention, aspiring college entrepreneurs: "Greenlight Maine" has put out a casting call for the upcoming season of its business-pitch competition.

The 2022-23 edition of the "Greenlight Maine College Edition" is seeking contestants for a televised competition to find Maine's most promising student-led startups.

This year's edition will start with a Zoom pitch-off Nov. 19 and culminate with a grand finale, in which three finalists will vie for the chance to win cash prizes of $10,000 for first place; $7,500 to place second; and $5,000 for a third-place showing.

The on-stage finale will be recorded in April at Thomas College in Waterville and air statewide in May or June 2023 on Maine Public Television and live-streamed on Facebook. An on-demand recording will also be available on YouTube.

Over the years, the show has invested more than $25 million in companies that have appeared on the series.

WAVED Medical LLC, a breast-cancer detection startup launched by University of Maine student Kendra Batchelder, who is currently pursuing her Ph.D., and Professor Andre Khalil finished second in last year's edition for their innovation.

Batchelder's advice to those considering applying this year: "I would encourage all college students with a business idea to apply to be a contestant on 'Greenlight Maine,'" she told Mainebiz.

For those selected to be on the show, she says, "Be prepared to engage your audience with a simple and coherent story. Through my participation on 'Greenlight Maine' last season. I learned an incredible amount about pitching, business planning, and made many new connections that can help with building WAVED Medical LLC."
