Casualties

Stationery printer William Arthur Inc. in Kennebunk plans to eliminate its third shift, cutting 23 jobs, according to the Portland Press Herald

Verso Paper in Bucksport laid off most of its 756 workers from March 9-23, according to the Bangor Daily News

American Pride, a wood turning manufacturer, will close its plant in Guilford and lay off roughly half of its 18 employees, according to the Bangor Daily News. Remaining employees will be transferred to a sister plant.

Quebec-based Boralex will close power plants in Stacyville and Fort Fairfield, laying off 29 people, according to Portland station WCSH6

Chicago-based R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. will close its catalog and direct-marketing plant in Wells and lay off 370 people, according to the AP

Kudos

General Dynamics in Saco won a $16 million U.S.-Navy contract extension for Gatling guns, according to a company release

Kenway Corp., a composites manufacturer in Augusta, recently doubled the size of its facility and added 20 jobs, according to a release

The former Red Shield pulp mill in Old Town will reopen as Old Town Fuel & Fiber, and will employ 170 workers, said Patriarch Partners, the New York City-based private equity firm that bought the plant
