A Camden business is closing later this month in the wake of former owner Russell “Rusty” Brace facing allegations of embezzling $3.8 million from a local charity he led for 17 years.
Tammy Swasey-Ballou, who bought KAX Office Center from Brace in July, told the Bangor Daily News she is shutting down the business on Nov. 30 because of the impact allegations against Brace have had on her business. She has claimed in a civil lawsuit that Brace and his wife misrepresented the quality of the business and that the allegations led to a major loss of clients and revenue.
Brace also is being sued by United Mid-Coast Charities for allegedly embezzling $3.8 million from the charity while he served as its board president for several years. The lawsuit is being stayed while the FBI investigates the allegations surrounding Brace.
