Colby's President Adams to retire next year

Colby College President William Adams announced Wednesday he plans to retire in the summer of 2014 after 12 years leading the private college in Waterville.

The college announced Adams' retirement in a press release Wednesday that listed a $376 million capital campaign and various building projects, including founding the college's Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement, among his accomplishments at the helm of the college.

Adams, who became Colby's 19th president in 2000, previously served as president of Bucknell University. Before that he taught political philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Santa Clara University.
