Coming attractions: Portland hotel under construction makes Vogue list

A boutique hotel under construction in Portland's West End neighborhood has made Vogue magazine's list of "The 26 Most-Anticipated New Hotels of 2023."

Out of six establishments in North America on the list, the future Longfellow Hotel in Maine's biggest city is the only one from New England.

The 48-room wellness-themed hotel is expected to open next summer.

The interior of the five-story Longfellow Hotel, at 754 Congress St., was designed by Post Co., of Brooklyn, N.Y., as its first design project in Maine. The developer is Portland-based Uncommon Hospitality, which was founded by brothers Nate DeLois and Tony DeLois.

"Post Co., whose previous projects include Inness and the Lake House on Canandaigua [one of the Finger Lakes in New York State], was inspired by both Portland’s historic West End architecture as well as Maine’s rugged eastern coastline when designing the new Longfellow Hotel," Vogue writer Elise Taylor says in her write-up.

"Think hardwood floors mixed with lime-washed walls, intricate mosaic tile flooring, pine accents and an appropriate amount of navy. In addition to its 48 guest rooms, there will be a Nordic-inspired spa and a yet-to-be-announced restaurant from Portland-based purveyors."

Vogue notes that after two and a half years of border closures in 2023, nearly every country in the world will be open for tourists again, and highlighted 26 on several continents as piquing the magazine's interest.

Besides the Longfellow Hotel in Portland, other U.S. names on the magazine's list of coming hotel attractions include two in New York City, two in California and one in Honolulu, Hawaii.
