County personal income up, except in Aroostook
Personal income increased from 2009-2010 in all Maine counties except Aroostook, according to new data released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. In general, personal income growth for Maine counties was slower than the national averages for similarly sized regions.
County personal income growth ranged from 2.7% in Hancock County to -0.2% in Aroostook County. Nationally, personal income in medium counties (those with populations from 50,000 to 249,999) grew 3.6%, while income growth in small counties (fewer than 50,000) grew 3.9%. The majority of Maine's counties were in the lowest quintile for personal income growth, while four were in the fourth quintile. Aroostook County was the only county in New England to see personal income drop during the time period. Maine's personal income grew 1.7% from 2009-2010, and 3.4% from 2010-2011, the slowest in the country. County data is not yet available for 2010-2011.
On a per-capita basis, personal income ranged from a high of 3.4% in Lincoln County to -0.2 in Piscataquis County.
