Adding to the flurry of construction activity on Portland’s eastern end, cPort Credit Union is having a new, four-story branch built at 35 Middle St. The new branch is scheduled to open in late 2018.
The building, next to Duckfat and Ribollita restaurants, is being built using all Maine-based contractors, including Landry/French Construction and Gawron Turgeon Architects.
While the first and second floors will be for the branch, the others will be for condominiums. The location is near India Street and close to Tilson Technology’s sprawling new digs at 16 Middle St. Close by on the eastern waterfront, WEX Inc. is building its new global headquarters as well.
Founded in 1931, cPort Credit Union is based at 50 Riverside Industrial Parkway in Portland. It said in a press release that it’s opening the new branch after seeing membership go up in the past few years, including 11% growth in 2017.
“This is an exciting time for cPort members as we build on our steady growth and continue working closely with our members to meet their needs,” said Gene Ardito, cPort’s president and CEO, in a statement.
He added: “This new branch in one of Portland’s most desirable neighborhoods is designed to give people in Portland even easier access to our products and services, everything from checking accounts to home loans.”
cPort Credit Union was founded in 1931 as the Federal Employees Credit Union of Maine. Today it is offers membership to anyone who lives or works in Cumberland, Kennebec, Sagadahoc, Androscoggin and York counties.
