The Feb. 2 closure of the Yarmouth call center of Cuddledown — a maker of home furnishings that’s part of the Potpourri Group, the North Billerica, Mass.-based catalog retailer — has left 26 employees with little communication from the company.
The Forecaster reported that, according to representatives from Potpourri Group, the closure was due to a labor shortage in Maine and service needs at the company’s other locations. Manufacturing operations at 14 Yarmouth Junction are continuing and the company’s outlet store, at 554 U.S. Route 1 in Freeport, remains open, the newspaper reported.
In an email to the newspaper, Stefanie Swalgen, vice president of human resources for Potpourri, said call center representatives have the option of transferring to another location.
Maine Department of Labor spokeswoman Laura Hudson told the Forecaster that former Cuddledown employees would be provided with employment and other information at a Rapid Response session.
“Nothing like going into work on a Friday [to] work for a couple hours [before] they shut down for a meeting … telling us they’re closing down, no notice of any kind,” former employee Brenda Fecteau told the newspaper.
