Cutler releases book criticizing partisan politics

Likely independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler released a book Wednesday attacking the Democratic and Republican parties for political standoffs he writes have undercut Maine’s economic prosperity.

The Portland Press Herald reported the 104-page, self-published book revises some of Cutler’s campaign positions from his 2010 bid for the Blaine House, including extending the school year and reforms to the state’s budgeting process.

Cutler has made the book, called “A State of Opportunity,” available on his website. Cutler has not yet made an official announcement of his candidacy but began fundraising for the governor’s race earlier this year.
