Dealership sale leaves 22 jobless

Maine-based Quirk Auto Group has purchased the Bangor Chrysler Dodge dealership, leading to the layoff of the dealership's 22 employees.

Quirk Auto Group bought the dealership as part of Chrysler's efforts to consolidate its franchises under one owner, and will rename it Quirk Chrysler Dodge, according to the Bangor Daily News. The dealership's previous owner, Phillip McFarland Jr., laid off the dealership's employees as part of the sale, Jack Quirk, president and co-owner of Quirk Auto Group, told the paper. Quirk said his company was in the process of interviewing the terminated employees, but would not say how many would be rehired. McFarland did not return calls from the paper seeking comment on the layoffs or the sale.

Quirk owns 20 dealerships and franchises in Maine, and employs about 400 people statewide, according to the Daily News.
